With several years experience teaching students of all ages, alongside his growing freelance work, Richard has established himself as a well respected tutor and pianist in the Manchester area. Having studied at Lancaster University initially with John Clegg, who was a student of Herbert Fryer’s, and then subsequently with Peter Noke, Richard has continued to work on developing his repertoire and technique. Boasting a busy teaching portfolio and fantastic exam results, alongside supporting new emerging talent with students being accepted to study at Chetham’s School of Music, he’s now focussed on building a successful music career.
Having undergone further study with Penelope Roskell and Benjamin Frith, with a focus on developing a tension free technique, Richard has worked with many top professionals to improve his overall approach to piano playing and pass on this knowledge and experience to his students. His own difficulties with RSI and back pains have given him greater insight into what is required from a performing artist and the pressure that recital work and teaching work can entail.
Richard has a lot planned for 2018-19. Whilst teaching forms a large part of his daily work, Richard will be reducing some of his teaching over the course of this period to focus on recital work, alongside further study into Piano Pedagogy which will enhance his students' lessons.
Preparations for some small recitals in August are underway, alongside his next student recital evening, which is due to take place in October.
