With several years experience teaching students of all ages, alongside his growing freelance work, Richard has established himself as a well respected tutor and pianist in the Manchester area. Having studied at Lancaster University initially with John Clegg, who was a student of Herbert Fryer’s, and then subsequently with Peter Noke, Richard has continued to work on developing his repertoire and technique. Boasting a busy teaching portfolio and fantastic exam results, alongside supporting new emerging talent with students being accepted to study at Chetham’s School of Music, he’s now focussed on building a successful music career.
Having undergone further study with Penelope Roskell and Benjamin Frith, with a focus on developing a tension free technique, Richard has worked with many top professionals to improve his overall approach to piano playing and pass on this knowledge and experience to his students. His own difficulties with RSI and back pains have given him greater insight into what is required from a performing artist and the pressure that recital work and teaching work can entail.
Richard has several plans for 2018 - Final work on his recording project with new recordings for the website coming shortly, recital work for some upcoming dates (TBC), alongside a busy teaching practice with opportunities for students including masterclasses and competitions.
Preparations for a Summer Concert event are underway with a variety of music to be performed by students. Richard has also been asked to perform again at the Clitheroe Ribble Valley Jazz Festival in May, alongside his freelance wedding recital work later in the year.
